グル・プルニマとは、生徒や精神世界を模索する者が、各々のグル（師）への尊敬を表す日です。ヨガにおいてグルとは、生徒を真実の叡智へと導く責任を担う者。グル・プルニマは、常にヒンズー暦のĀṣāḍha-月齢によって6月か７月-の満月の日に設けられます。これはヴィヤサ・プルニマとしても知られ、マハーバーラタを文字に記しヴェーダ古典を編纂した、インドで最も重要なグルである古代の聖者ヴェーダ・ヴィヤサを祀る日とされています。

This Sunday, July 5, marks Guru Pūrṇimā, the day that students and spiritual seekers pay respects to their gurus, those who are responsible for leading them to the true knowledge of yoga. Guru Pūrṇimā always falls on the full moon day in the Hindu month of Āṣāḍha, which takes place in June and July, according to the lunar calendar. It is also known as Vyāsa Pūrṇimā, the day that honors the ancient sage Veda Vyāsa, the most important guru in India, scribe of the Mahābhārata, and compiler of the ancient Vedas.
